Emeryville to West Oakland to SF to SFO to London to Venice to Adria to Ferrara in photos

Switching trains at Lake Merritt

Umm...

Us and the bikes arrived safe at Heathrow

Our new friend Mark in London. Such a great person.

The Long Walk to Windsor Castle

There be big mountains here. With snow and everything.

My bike didn't arrive as safely to Venice. Now it has some personality though.

About to roll to the campground outside Venice proper.

We finally found a cash machine in Venice but now we needed to find food before killing each other.

The first meal in Venice with our first Italian beers. That's Dan in the background. Our third partner in crime until Rome.

The leaning tower of Venice. Who knew?

Mel pondering the Piazza San Marco.

Full disclosure. We ended up in a bungalow instead of a tent at the Venice campground.

The next day we rode our bikes on this road to grab the first of three ferries to Chioggia.

Dan pre-Canadians.

Dan with Canadians.

Maybe there's another way up for wheelchairs?

Sort of like a venus fly trap for hungry humans.

It appears Dan hates me and that couple in the back has no idea what to think of Mel's tattoos.

The view of where you could stand to get elbowed while trying to see the view.

Beer again with Dan.

Andre the Giant has a posse in Venice.

Our last bridge over a canal in Venice.

Mel's not sure what to think of watching the sun rise on our first day of real riding.

The bridge to Venice and to the ferry.

Going the right way before missing the turn and going the wrong way.

The wrong way.

Thought this was the right way, then thought it was the wrong way, then backtracked to a ferry stop we saw earlier, then got on the ferry and realized there was another stop where we had just been.

In hindsight this was all unnecessary. I think you can see the ferry stop in the background that we should have used.

Us continuing in the wrong direction for a bit.

Got back on track after Chioggia and then stopped for a water and restroom break. Gas stations in Italy also have bars in them.

Kind of sums up how Dan and Mel have been feeling so far about the ride.

An overheated Mel who has just tried to cool off.

Yay! Found a place to stay for the night.

My tired girl.

Tiredness = crazy laughter

Starting the day with some cappuccinos and an americano before riding to Ferrara.

Seriously, Dan's insane. Mid-ride break and he's doing pushups.

Some of the random crumbling buildings we saw along the Po River.

Wish I could remember the name of this village. Was quite beautiful. Hard to tell in the photo but this tower is leaning toward us. Leaning towers are becoming a common theme of the trip.

Their faces say it all.

Yep, that's Mel thinking she might puke because of the ride. And that's how Dan looks.

Start

Finish

Pretty sure the zombie apocalypse may have happened here. Seriously, where is everyone?

Still no people on the streets.

Got a room at a hostel. Camping is planned for tomorrow night.

Lots of bikes in Ferrara.

Pizza for dinner after pizza for lunch.
